"If you want to change the world, tell your story. This is the currency of human connection."
- Isabel Allende
Our Beginning:
The School of Sexuality Program began its journey when a local charter school reached out to us during the challenging times of the pandemic. With budget cuts and distance learning struggles, they recognized the urgent need for improved sex education. Responding to their call, we developed a dynamic video-based curriculum that aligned with their available resources. Empowering their educator with comprehensive training and essential tools, we ensured the effective delivery of the program.
Since our inception, our program has flourished, continuously evolving to meet the diverse needs of schools. We introduced professional development opportunities for school staff, hosted engaging parent workshops, and facilitated orientations to create a tight-knit and supportive school community.
Our impact didn't stop there. We expanded our reach to four additional schools, positively influencing their communities, and demonstrating the power of comprehensive sex education in transforming lives.
As the School of Sexuality Project Inc., we aim to address the social and political stigmas surrounding sex education that have long hindered young people's access to essential information and life skills. Our focus lies in challenging the systemic barriers through effective resource allocation and impactful policy changes.
To create a society where honest and inclusive sex education becomes the norm, we provide accessible educational resources, including comprehensive curricula, print materials, and workshops for educators, young individuals, and families alike.
Our journey is one of resilience, dedication, and passion as we continue to advocate for the transformative power of comprehensive sex education in shaping a healthier and more informed society.
MEET OUR FOUNDER
Meet Bridgett Khoury, the visionary founder and creator of The School of Sexuality Project. As a first-generation Arab American and proud mother of two queer children, Bridgett's personal experiences have fueled her commitment to comprehensive sex education. With over ten years of experience as a certified sex educator in Los Angeles charter schools, she has honed her skills in bridging the gaps between home and classroom.
The lack of comprehensive sex education in the country has deeply impacted Bridgett's life, leading to experiences of abusive relationships, insufficient birth control information resulting in two abortions, and the contraction of HPV with subsequent cancerous cell removal before the age of 21. Tragically, the absence of education also played a role in losing her child at 24 weeks due to an incompetent cervix stemming from past damage. Driven by personal loss and a fierce determination to create a safe world for her two queer children, Bridgett's journey as a certified sex educator began. Over the years, she has worked tirelessly within schools, empowering students with knowledge and understanding about their bodies, relationships, and consent.
Bridgett's unwavering dedication to creating a world of systemic change in sex education is rooted in her love for her children and her desire to ensure that no one else faces the barriers she encountered. Through The School of Sexuality Project, Bridgett's vision is to foster a future where comprehensive sex education becomes a unifying force, bridging divides, promoting inclusivity, and empowering individuals to embrace their identities and make informed decisions.
